Interestin’ News: ’09 Biggest Summer Yet, In Domestic-Grosses At Least.

According to Variety, 2009’s $4.7 billion over the summer (so far) has broken the previous record held by 2007’s $4.6 billion take. The official end of the summer session is Labor Day, and this weekend is supposed to add close to $100 million more to the final tally alone, which could end with a 3% higher number than 2007’s. However, Box Office Mojo shows that average ticket prices in 2007 were $6.88 while 2009’s (so far) averages $7.18. That is an increase of 4.36%, which, as shown, would mean that based on amount of tickets sold, 2009 wouldn’t be higher unless the rest of the week and weekend pulls in much more than expected.
