Penelope Cruz In Talks To Star In PIRATES 4 With Johnny Depp

Who thoughts this was coming!? Catching everybody by surprise yesterday was the announcement that Cruz is in talks to join the fourth Pirates flick, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Remember that Keira Knightley had no interest in returning for her role as Elizabeth Swann, mainly due to how long she spent working on the films. That means whoever Cruz is playing, she will likely be the sole female star of the film.

She will have to hold her own against Depp, but has done it before in their previous film Blow. Very curious to see how this ends up. Film is slated for a May 20, 2011 release.

Tilda Swinton: ‘Yes’ To Playing Conan O’Brien! Do It!

But can she do the String Dance?

MovieLine recently queried Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton about the suggestion by Conan O’Brien that if someone were to play him in an HBO series about the tribulations of his depature from The Tonight Show, it should be Swinton.

Her response at Sundance while promoting her film I Am Love?

“I’ve heard about Conan!” Swinton said excitedly when I broached the subject. “I’m so thrilled.”

“I would just be only too happy,” she beamed. “Yes, yes, yes, absolutely.”

Did You ‘Demand’ PARANORMAL ACTIVITY? Check For Your Name

Paranromal Activity recently hit DVD and Blu-ray, and while I haven’t gotten around to purchasing the film, I did give it a glowing review. Anyways, in the release, they list a TON of names that demanded the film in their “Demand It” campaign on Eventful. For those that haven’t kept up, the site was set up to enable people interested in the film to “demand” the film in their location, and that would influence the subsequent rollout of the film across the U.S. That campaign was a monumental success, as they easily broke their requested one-million “demands” with the promise of having a nationwide release.

Now the incredibly large list of names has hit the net, and as you can see above, I found my own name. WOOT! If you demanded the film, hit this link here to browse through the three pages of names. They are in alphabetical order, as you might notice, but by first names. Just a little thanks to the fans who made the film a success. Bravo Paramount.

Interestin’ News: Galifianakis, Rudd Reteam For “Will”, Written By Demetri Martin

Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd’s first film together, “Dinner for Schmucks,” hasn’t even released yet, but already the duo will team up again for the Demetri Martin penned “Will,” according to THR.

The story follows an ordinary guy (Rudd) who lives in a world where people’s lives and destinies are being written by scribes in Heaven. The man wakes up one day to find that his heavenly writer (Galifianakis) has decided to no longer draft his life, and he must go about his day unscripted, ending up on a journey to fulfill his hidden potential.

Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will co-direct. Their last project together was “Little Miss Sunshine,” a humorous and touching tale.

‘Schmucks’ actually has an impressive cast. Directed by Jay Roach, who helmed the Austin Powers and Meet the Parents franchises, ‘Schmucks’ will star Galifianakis, Rudd, Steve Carrell, and Jemaine Clement.

Interestin’ News: Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan A Part Of Duncan Jones’ “Source Code”

Duncan Jones is making waves despite his relative lack of experience. Not since Rian Johnson grabbed an outstanding cast for his second feature film, “The Brothers Bloom,” have we seen a director grab this kind of a cast for only his second film. However, that is what happens when you create a great debut film.

Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan are in negotiations to star alongside Jack Gyllenhaal in Jones’ “Source Code,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. For plot details, hit the jump. Continue reading

Interestin’ News: Mark Strong In Talks For Sinestro In “Green Lantern”

Yesterday, I reported on an article by Drew over at HitFix and how he mentioned that after making some calls, it appeared that Jackie Earle Haley was the front runner without even audition for the role of Sinestro. However, that was completely debunked last night, as director Martin Campbell told MTV, “No, That’s completely wrong.”

“In fact, we’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro.”

For full details, including which key characters will be making an appearance in the film, hit the jump. Continue reading

Interestin’ News: Jackie Earle Haley Still In “Green Lantern”?

Drew at HitFix did a little detective work and found nothing to suggest that Jackie Earle Hayley’s rumored role as Sinestro in Martin Campbell’s “Green Lantern” is over. In fact, it is a very real possibility, but perhaps in a much smaller way—for now.

As Drew mentions so elegantly, the plot reads like a “Wikipedia page” and is “overstuffed with characters.” With Peter Sarsgaard already tapped for the super-villain Hector Hammond, the likelihood that Sinestro will have a full fledged role in the first film is very small.

For the full details, including the cast and release date, hit the jump. Continue reading

Interestin’ News: Daniel Craig To Play “Cowboys & Aliens”?

Collider is reporting that through sources they have heard Daniel Craig is in negotiations to play the lead role in Jon Favreau’s upcoming “Cowboys & Aliens.” On Monday, I reported that Robert Downey Jr. had run into scheduling conflicts and dropped out of the role, mentioning that they would have to work quickly to keep their planned summer 2011 release.

Now it seems that they have done exactly that, and are trying to get Craig.

This would be a nice role for Craig and team him up with Favreau, one of the hottest directors going, for the first time. I hope Universal can get him on board, as the basic premise of cowboys and indians uniting after an alien mothership lands on Earth sound like fantastic fun. Throw in writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (“Star Trek”) along with Damon Lindelof (ABC’s LOST), and the fun factor is sky high.

Interestin’ News: Christopher Nolan Says “Inception” His Largest Scale Film Yet

Christopher Nolan opened up to Hero Complex about his mysterious new film, “Inception,” yesterday and he had some interesting things to say.

“This is the biggest challenge I’ve taken on to this point.  We’re trying to tell a story on a massive scale, a true blockbuster scale—the biggest I’ve ever been involved with. We tried to make a very large-scale film with ‘The Dark Knight’ and with this one we wanted to push that even further.”

Hilarious First Scene, Poster Of Cage In ‘Kick-Ass’

UGO has provided the first glimpse at Nicolas Cage in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming “Kick-Ass” and it is great. Cage plays masked hero Big Daddy in the film, and he is attempting to train his daughter to fight thugs.

Also included is the first poster for Big Daddy in all his glory, and it is hilarious. If you haven’t heard by now, the film has gotten rave reviews from its first screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin over the weekend.

In fact, the film was so kick ass that it actually blew out a center speaker in the theater and the upcoming screenings had to be delayed to replace the speaker. Look for more hype for this film based on Mark Millar’s graphic novels as it approaches the April 16th release date. Video after the jump. Continue reading
